After receiving the BChD degree from the University of Malta in 2006, Dr. David Mifsud worked as an associate dental surgeon in local private practice. Thereafter he joined an established private and NHS practice in Cromer, North Norfolk (UK) where he spent 2 years practicing general dentistry.
Between 2009 and 2012, he joined a 3 year postgraduate advanced training programme in prosthodontics and material sciences (Chair: Prof. Dr. h.c. J.R. Strub) at the distinguished Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg, Germany under the mentorship of PD Dr. med dent Wael Att, PhD and Dr. med dent Taskin Tuna.
Besides becoming knowledgeable in the fields of removable and fixed prosthodontics, he was involved in a variety of research projects which include the ultraviolet light photofunctionalization of titanium and ceramic implant surfaces and their impact on bacterial adhesion followed by a literature review about the clinical outcome of clasp retained removable dental prostheses. He was also engaged by Nobel Biocare to oversee the performance of a new veneering ceramic in crown and bridge technology. He is expected to defend his doctoral thesis and receive his Dr. med dent degree in 2013.
Back in Malta, he is engaged within the Faculty of Dental Surgery as a demonstrator, lecturer and researcher and is also working in private practice. In January 2013, David joined Sammut Specialists and is responsible for the treatment planning and prosthetic needs of the patients alongside Dr. Edward Sammut. Besides remaining updated on a variety of dental topics that include preventive dentistry and navigated implant surgery, he dedicates time to music and cycling events both locally and abroad.
